In light of recent HMRC PAYE account letters received by us for clients, we have found that these are fake and a scam to obtain money from the account holder.
The phone number on the fake HMRC letter that has been traced back to being a scam is 0300 200 3819, as well as various parts of the letters that are inconsistent. For PAYE clients we act for, we carry out several checks, including reconciling with HMRC to confirm actual amounts owed.
We would like to warn all our clients to remain vigilant and not to give any of their personal details away over the phone.
These scammers are highly professional, knowing exactly how to gain your confidence.
Enhance Due Diligence
We want to reassure you that if we act for you as your agent for any service we provide, we will always carry out all necessary checks to ensure the information received is correct before it is passed onto you.
However, if we do not act for you for a particular service, yet receive a letter regarding it, we would pass this onto you to complete your own checks, as we do not have access to that service on the HMRC portal.
If you are concerned that you may have received a letter like this and made a payment, please contact your bank as soon as possible to inform them of this.
